Beauty Box Subscription: February 2015 Birchbox

One of the first beauty box subscriptions I purchased a few years ago was Birchbox. To be truthful, I ended up canceling my subscription after three months because I didn't find the samples compelling enough to want to use any of them.

After a couple of years, I decided to sign up again last August. I started watching videos on YouTube of beauty vloggers unboxing their beauty subscription boxes. I also got interested in makeup again and wanting to feel better about myself. I used to use makeup regularly when I worked but after I got married and started having children, I put that part of myself aside. It was just easier to get up in the morning and not have to bother with makeup. Now that my boys are a little older and don't need as much concentrated attention, I have time to primp in the mornings.

Birchbox costs just $10 a month and comes with at least five samples. I wouldn't categorize all the samples as deluxe sized samples but you can usually get at least 2-3 uses or more out of them. Recently Birchbox has allowed subscribers the ability to chose at least one of their samples or be surprised. They also offer a curated box and let you know what samples are contained within that box. The samples are based upon a short survey you fill out with information such as skin and hair type, skin tone and what samples you are not interested in receiving.

This month I received five samples:

Marcelle Gentle Make-Up Remover for Sensitive Eyes
COOLA Face SPF 30 Unscented Mate Tint
Eyeko Skinny Liquid Eyeliner
Harvey Prince Sincerely
amika Nourishing Mask
I have only tried a few of the samples but plan on using all of them. I generally like getting makeup and perfume samples the best followed by skin care. This box encompassed all the things I liked which makes it a big win for me! I was lucky to get a full sized makeup product this month with the Eyeko eyeliner. That alone was worth more than the box because it cost $16. The other samples varied from the $1.65 to $5.00 range. Total worth for this month's box was $28.49. This is a great value considering I only paid $10.

I am loving Birchbox this time around and plan on continuing my subscription. They also have a great system where you can earn Birchbox points you can use to purchase products from them directly. In fact, they have the best point system reward program. You can redeem as little as 100 Birchbox points for $10 off products in their store. To get points, you can either refer friends, make purchases or write reviews on products you receive in your box. Each product review is worth 10 points, so after about two months, you can easily gather enough points for $10 off!

In conclusion, I would wholly recommend Birchbox if you are looking to explore many different brands without having to purchase full sized products. I have discovered many favorites with my Birchbox!
