Planners and MORE Review: Paper Mate InkJoy Gel Pens and (mini-review) Uniball 207 Gel Pens

A few months ago, I started getting interested in planners (yes those paper and pen ones) and the whole phenomenon of decorating them! I don't exactly know what piqued my interest but I'm sure something about them was fascinating enough for me to consider purchasing one, and I finally did a few weeks ago. It doesn't start until July 2016, so it gives me a few weeks to prepare and get started working on mine. I learned in my education of planners and planning that the right kind of pen really makes a difference when writing in whatever you plan to write in your planner. There seems to be a consensus that gel pens are the way to go. There are many kinds to choose from and many ranges of prices. And the colors... well I could on and on about the array of colors they span. What I discovered is that people who use planners and like to write in them want a pen which is reasonably priced and works well.

I haven't tried many gel pens but my current favorite are these medium point Uniball 207 gel pens in this specific pink ribbon design. They come in the standard blue, black and red ink and I have been using the black ink ones. I probably gravitated toward them only because they are pink (which is no indication of their ink color). However they write very smoothly and is a good workhorse pen. I don't know if they come in different points but I love the medium point one which may be a little thick for some people. To be honest, I haven't used them in my planner yet because my planner doesn't start until July. But I'm sure this is going to be one of my go-to pens when I have to fill out my planner. These are also cost effective and go for about $2.99 for a pack of 2 at Target. I plan on purchasing more of these pens even if I don't use them in my planner.

Now on to the good stuff. I bought a pack of these Paper Mate InkJoy Gel Pens in a four pack. I got these from Walmart which retails them for about $6.64 online. I am not sure what I paid in-store but I'm sure they were about that much if not a little less. These are sold everywhere, so it's not hard to pick up a pack. They also come in a multitude of colors and you can even purchase a pack of up to 20 pens with a nice assortment of colors. I decided to try out a 4 pack only because I didn't want to invest money into pens I might not like. I thought these four colors would be a good start. I haven't used these in my planner yet but I have tried these out of regular paper.

Can I just say how pretty these pens are? They are jewel toned and have a soft rubber covering which makes it nice to write. I don't particularly have large hands, so I need a pen that would fit comfortably and these fit nicely. I have medium-sized or average hands, I think! The ink colors are beautiful and stand out nicely on white. Here is a sample I did with each pen on the right. This is on standard paper which is thinner than the pages in my Happy Planner. I didn't mention it earlier but I decided to go with the Happy Planner. So far I'm loving how it is set up and the paper. Back to the pens... they write very smooth and the ink is just vibrant. I am already figuring out I need the whole set. I think for now these will suit me fine. I am not an expert on pens nor have I tried out a lot. I just like what I like, and I like these very much! I also don't feel they are too expensive like some of the other gel pens out there. These are nice and affordable which is alright by me! You can also get these pens in the standard black, blue and red ink too so even if you are looking for a regular everyday pen, these would work out great. The only negative might be the grip or comfort for your hand. My suggestion is to purchase a smaller pack to start with before investing in a larger one.
